Summer Field Day 2026

Canton Amateur Radio Club - W8AL - Join us for the 2026 summer field day on June 27th and 28th. All are welcome. Location: 6670 State St NE, Louisville, OH, 44641 - Times and details will be posted soon!

What will be happening?

Field Day is the largest annual “on-the-air” amateur radio event. The activity helps to ensure emergency preparedness, and doubles as public outreach. Radio operators all over North America setup temporary radio stations similar to what might be necessary after a weather emergency. Individuals and groups compete to make as many contacts or QSOs as possible over a 24 hours period.  Anyone curious about amateur radio is invited to join our club and share in the fun.  Licensed operators will be onsite to answer questions and can help you start your journey if you are interested in getting your own license.

When is the event?

Please join the Canton Amateur Radio Club (W8AL) from Saturday June 27, 2026 @2:00pm through Sunday June 28, 2026 @12:00pm. (The event continues until 2:00pm but activity tends to wind down around noon.)

Where will you be?

The club will gather at a private family farm.  Please respect the property and follow the signs when you arrive.

Canton Amateur Radio Club W8AL Fox Hunt 2026

The 2026 CARC Fox Hunt will be held on Saturday, April 25th, 2026.
Fox Hunting! A fun amateur radio event where individuals or teams sharpen their radio
direction-finding skills. All hams of any license class are welcome, as is the public.
Listening for and locating the Fox transmitter does not require an amateur license.
Participants only need an HT with a signal-strength meter and a directional antenna,
such as a Yagi antenna. Use of other direction-finding equipment, such as offset
attenuators, is permitted.

All Fox Hunters should meet at Middlebranch Machine in North Canton (6820 Wise
Ave. NW, North Canton, Ohio 44720) by 10:00 AM and check in with the event
coordinators. You will be given a sealed envelope that may be opened only if you fail to
find the Fox; otherwise, it must be returned unopened with the color of the square block
on the located Fox container written on it. You will also be given a set of simple rules.
Your chase vehicle’s mileage must be recorded by the event coordinators prior to
starting your hunt. Because the WINNER is determined by the least distance traveled,
not by first arrival, starting times will be staggered.
Remember: Safety first!
Please RSVP to Tom (N8TEE) at [email protected] by April 24, 2026 for the Fox Hunt.

Need a Yagi antenna for the Fox Hunt? There will be a build project for a tape-
measure Yagi antenna, commonly used for fox hunts by many.

The build project will be held Saturday, April 11, 2026, starting at 2:00 PM at
Middlebranch Machine (see above for address). The cost is $20.00, which includes all
supplies, instructions, and use of equipment. There will also be a demonstration of a
Fox transmitter with the chance to test your new antenna.
Please RSVP to Tom (N8TEE) at [email protected] by April 9, 2026 for the build
project.
If you have questions for either the Fox Hunt or the build project, call Tom (N8TEE)
